Key Catholic Prayers

Catholic prayer life is centered around the Mass, the Liturgy of the Hours, and various devotions. The Rosary, Divine Mercy Chaplet, and prayers to saints are important parts of Catholic spirituality.

The Rosary

A meditative prayer focusing on the life of Christ, prayed with the intercession of Mary. It consists of specific prayers recited while meditating on key events (mysteries) in the lives of Jesus and Mary.

Divine Mercy Chaplet

A devotion based on the visions of St. Faustina, focusing on God's mercy. It's often prayed using rosary beads, especially at 3 PM, the Hour of Mercy.

Liturgy of the Hours

Also called the Divine Office, this is the official set of prayers marking the hours of each day and sanctifying the day with prayer. It consists primarily of psalms, hymns, and readings.

Novenas

Nine days of prayer for special intentions. Many novenas are dedicated to specific saints or for particular needs. They often combine formal prayers with personal petitions.

Prayer for Physical Healing

Protestant

Heavenly Father, I come before You today in need of Your healing hand. In You all things are possible. Hold my heart within Yours, and renew my mind, body, and soul. I am lost, but I am singing. You gave us life, and You also give us the gift of infinite joy. Give me the strength to move forward on the path you've laid out for me. Guide me towards better health, and give me the wisdom to identify those you've placed around me to help me get better. In Your name I pray, Amen.

Prayer for Emotional Healing

Evangelical

Lord, I come before you today knowing that all power is in Your hand. I know that you are the Lord and that you care for your people. Right now, my friend is struggling with a difficult trial. I can see her strength is faltering, Lord, and know that you have all of the strength that she needs. I pray that you'll reach down and touch her right now wherever she is at this moment. Let your presence fill the room where she is and let her feel an extra portion of your strength that can help her to get through this day. She needs you now, Lord, and I thank you in advance for meeting her where she is and shoring up her strength during this difficult time. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Heavenly Father, I am your humble servant, and I kneel before You today, helpless and weak. I need Your help and guidance during this difficult time in my life. My heart is troubled, but I will strive to keep it set on You, as Your infinite wisdom will show me the path to healing and restoration. Please grant me peace in my mind, body, soul, and spirit. I ask that You heal me wherever needed. And I ask that You heal my loved ones as well. Bless me with Your peace and strength to get through each day. In Your name I pray, Amen.

Prayer to St. Peregrine for Healing

Catholic

O great St. Peregrine, you have been called 'The Mighty,' 'The Wonder-Worker,' because of the numerous miracles which you have obtained from God for those who have had recourse to you. For so many years you bore in your own flesh this cancerous disease that destroys the very fiber of our being, and who had recourse to the source of all grace when the power of man could do no more. You were favored with the vision of Jesus coming down from His Cross to heal your affliction. Ask of God and Our Lady, the cure of the sick whom we entrust to you. (Pause here and silently recall the names of the sick for whom you are praying) Aided in this way by your powerful intercession, we shall sing to God, now and for all eternity, a song of gratitude for His great goodness and mercy. Amen.
